Cheap Charlie’s Guest House

Comments: Very basic, bed with mosquito net, fan & squat toilet & shared
shower.Cheap Charlie's keeps their room prices down as they will not pay
taxi commissions and thus are the cheapest place to stay in Koh Kong.
The food is as good if not better than Otto's, is less expensive, and
their menu is more extensive. Do stop at Charlie's at least for a meal!

IMO the best hotel in Koh Kong besides the casino that is considerably more money and on the wrong side of the river for sanuk. This one is my favorite of the Koh Kong hotels.

Kampong Cham

A 2-story building with rooms on the second floor. Located on the south end of town, near the river and just north of the Japanese built Mekong bridge. Prices are $3/nite for a room, $4 with a small TV. No AC, fan room only. Rooms are marginal; weird plumbing - cannot turn on the water to the sink without turning on the shower. Bed's large mattress is uncomfortable; blankets too small. Not recommended.
Phnom Prosh Hotel
Best and newest place in town, near the traffic circle. Nice clean rooms, interior room w/ fan & TV a mere $5, similar room with a window and AC are $10. Place is rumored to be owned by a nephew of Hun Sen, but no problem with guests. Hotel has the only nightclub in town and it is dead and not worth a visit. Pleasant, responsive staff
Recommend the Kampong Cham restaurant, located south of the Japanese bridge. Nice place, never crowded...large menu, good food and service...with the perfunctory waiter/waitress standing by your table during the meal to take care of any incident needs...such as replenishing ice in my glass of tea whenever there is room for a single ice cube.
Chhlong
Very small town on way to Kratie (Kracheh). Only two GH's in town, both on the Mekong riverfront, located one-block north and parallel to the main road through town. I stayed at the one with the sign in Khmer and "Guesthouse" in English. Only one very small room, which is part of the owner house. Nice folks, but no English spoken. Fan only, no HW, $2.50/10,000Riel/nite. Many small local restaurants along the street. Few farangs visit and locals very nice.
Kratie (Kracheh)
Santeheap Hotel
Located on riverfront road; newest hotel in this small town. Nice clean large fan room, two large beds, with TV and no HW is $5/nite. No guest problems. Stayed in a room in building behind main hotel. Weird was the room's front door was 7-feet tall, but bathroom door was a mere 5'10" (taller guys gotta remember to stoop down)!! Kratie is a small town and draws tourists to see the endangered fresh water dolphins in the Mekong. Dolphin viewing area is 15km north of town. Happily, I'd not seen a farang in 5 days travel, but found them in Kratie. Mekong restaurant, one-block south of the hotel has decent food and is touted as having the best French fries in Asia. The Star GH, across from the central market, is to be avoided!! Lousy food (ants were crawling in my rice) and the place is a magnet for backpackers. Kratie has one disco in town, but it has been closed for a year. Some discos a few miles south on the road that goes to Snuol.
Kampong Chhnang
Rithisen Hotel
Found only two places to stay in town. The first was a guest house, in the center of town, with small rooms, fan and pretty shabby, even at $3/nite. The other place is the Rithisen Hotel, located on the Mekong riverfront, with rooms on the 2nd floor. Old building, small room with fan, TV and no HW. Not the cleanest room, but at $7/nite it was superior to the cheaper guesthouse. Room had a sign advising condom use, so obviously guest friendly! Saw only one other farang in town, who was also staying at the Rithisen. Mekong restaurant has cheap & good food, also some food stands just south of hotel and many near the main market.
