There seems to have been a few changes in Phnom Penh the last couple of months. Martini’s has moved again, this time to a location in the southern part of Phnom Penh, it seems that they were getting a lot of complaints about the noise level at their new location near the Chinese Embassy but the ownership seems to think that the third time will be the charm and that they won’t have any problems at this new location. The format is basically the same and they are having good crowds for low season most nights. Sharky’s and Walkabout are doing a brisk business as well, the Walkabout has definitely had it’s beauty quotient increased the last few months with many of Phnom Penh’s favorites selecting Walkabout as their favorite venue to ply their trade as freelancers.
The migration of the most popular brothels continues at Svay Pak with most of the popular houses moving into the city. This is a trend that has been going on for the last two years with all of the pressure from the various NGO groups and the Cambodia government but it has really accelerated the last couple of months with several more shops moving into town. Svay Pak (K11) has been down before and has always managed to find a way to rise from the ashes, it will be interesting to see if they can do it one more time. There is a lot of pressure to close the whole area down but I think that they have too much traffic from the locals to do that.
