Phnom Penh Update

As most Cambodiaphiles know, crackdowns on the pay-for-play scene are fairly commonplace in Phnom Penh but this latest crackdown is having a profound effect. For the last eight months the Phnom Penh authorities have been working hand  in hand with the NGO's to nab any farangs that are perceived to be doing anything  illegal and every week brings news of new arrests. I've never seen as many paranoid  adult travel tourists and expats as are there now.

Nowadays it seems that undercover agents are monitoring all of the popular nightlife sights and hotels with astonishing results. The result of all of this  increased surveillance is that many of the popular spots are seeing very few tourists or expat customers; the Phnom Penh pay-for-play is diminishing daily. It seems that everything goes in cycles and while crackdowns are normal for Cambodia, this new one is a doozie. Lets hope that things return to normal soon.

While Martini and Sharky still have plenty of available babes, Svay Pak (K11)  is becoming like a ghost town with few girls or punters around. New brothel areas are springing up all over town as a result and it is best to check out available information sources before your next trip.
